President Yoweri Museveni has announced a Shs56 billion government relief package for families affected by the recent landslides in Kween and surrounding areas.

Each affected household will receive two acres of land and Shs10 million to help rebuild their lives.

Speaking during his campaign visit to Kween, the President also thanked the people of Sebei for offering 500 acres for an industrial park, which he said will become a new hub for jobs and production in the region.

“The sustainable way forward is to discourage settlement on the uplands,” Museveni said, emphasizing that lowlands should host homes and businesses, while highlands can be used for tourism and other economic activities.

Museveni further reiterated the government’s commitment to expanding higher education across the country, promising that Sebei, Karamoja, and Bugisu will each have a public university, addressing the historical concentration of universities in Kampala.

This visit underscores government efforts to combine disaster relief, economic development, and education expansion in the region.
