Musasizi Bets on Roko to Deliver Uganda’s New Statistics Hub

The Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Hon. Henry Musasizi, has described Roko Construction Limited as Uganda’s leading local construction firm, citing its proven track record in delivering major infrastructure projects across the country.

Musasizi made the remarks on Thursday while presiding over the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) Entebbe Office Block.

“The project will be completed in three and a half years because we have employed the best local company in the country,” Musasizi said.

He praised Roko for its experience in handling complex construction projects, particularly high-rise structures, noting that the company has consistently delivered quality work and has not disappointed the country.

“Roko has demonstrated capacity in construction, especially in structures. We have never been let down by this company,” he said.

The minister urged Roko Construction and all stakeholders involved in the UBOS project to ensure timely completion, maintain high-quality standards, and deliver value for money.

Roko recently completed the construction of the new Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development headquarters in Kampala, one of the country’s notable modern office developments.

UBOS Facility to Boost Statistics, Innovation

UBOS Board Chairman Dr. Albert Byamugisha described the project as a major milestone in Uganda’s statistical development, appreciating government support and funding towards the facility.

He expressed confidence in Roko Construction’s ability to deliver a modern and quality facility within the agreed timeline.

Dr. Byamugisha also welcomed Uganda’s bid to host the East African Statistics Bureau at the facility, saying it would strengthen regional cooperation in statistics and data management.

During the ceremony, Musasizi emphasized the importance of modernizing Uganda’s statistical systems to meet emerging national and international demands.

The new facility will feature a modern Data Centre, Data Science and Innovation Hubs, training facilities, and offices for census and survey coordination.

UBOS Executive Director and Chief Statistician Dr. Chris Mukiza said the project represents a new chapter in Uganda’s statistical development, adding that it will support research, innovation, skills development, job creation, and evidence-based decision-making.

Roko Pledges Quality Delivery

Roko Construction Chairman Mark Koehler thanked the government and UBOS for entrusting the company with the project, pledging commitment to delivering a safe, high-quality, and timely facility.

“We remain committed to professionalism, collaboration, and delivering a project that meets the expectations of government and the people of Uganda,” Koehler said.

Founded in 1969, Roko Construction Limited is one of Uganda’s oldest and largest indigenous construction and civil engineering companies.

The company was established by the late Max Rohrer and Rainer Kohler, who combined decades of African construction experience to contribute to Uganda’s development.

Over the years, Roko has expanded its operations beyond Uganda into countries including Rwanda, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, South Sudan, and Tanzania.

The company employs an average of 1,800 people and operates with more than 40 qualified civil and site engineers, supported by extensive construction equipment and technical capacity.

Among its landmark projects are the Bank of Uganda building, Workers House, Village Mall Bugolobi, Acacia Mall, and Mestil Hotel, among others.

The UBOS Entebbe Office Block project is expected to further strengthen Uganda’s capacity in data generation, analysis, and statistical innovation.
