Uganda’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs (International Affairs), Henry Okello Oryem, on Friday held a cordial meeting with Vladlen Semivolos, Ambassador of the Embassy of Russia in Uganda, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uganda in Kampala.

During the meeting, the two officials held constructive discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between Uganda and Russia. Their talks particularly focused on preparations for the upcoming Russia–Africa Summit 2026, scheduled to take place in October 2026.

The engagement explored potential areas of collaboration that could further deepen relations between the two countries, with both sides expressing interest in expanding partnerships in sectors of mutual benefit.

Okello Oryem and Ambassador Semivolos also discussed coordinated efforts within multilateral platforms, highlighting the importance of cooperation in addressing shared international priorities and promoting stronger diplomatic engagement between Russia and African countries.

The meeting underscored the continued commitment by Kampala and Moscow to fostering a more robust and mutually beneficial partnership as both nations prepare for the next Russia–Africa Summit, a platform that has increasingly become central to Russia’s engagement with African states.

Uganda has in recent years maintained steady diplomatic relations with Russia, with cooperation spanning areas such as education, energy, and defense, alongside engagement in global and regional multilateral forums.
