Ugandan Richard Matua Job is in Somaliland where he has pitched camp in Somaliland to advocate for the recognition of the breakaway Somali region.

Matua is the CEO of Organization for Transparency Advocacy Uganda, an anti-corruption organisation.

His advocacy for the independence of  Somaliland came following a Memorandum Of Understanding signed between the region of Somaliland and Ethiopia.

The MoU did not go down well the spine of Somalia’s government with the President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, using it as a premise to act in a way that analysts say was ‘undiplomatic’ at the just concluded successful African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital.

Matua has been voicing his support for the recognition of Somaliland on social media especially X (Former Twitter) arguing that the MoU paves the way for other countries to recognise Somaliland as independent nation.

Somaliland’s quest for independence is rooted in historical, political, and geographical factors. The region’s history is characterized by its initial existence as a British protectorate and later as part of the Somali Republic after gaining independence in 1960. However, the quest for recognition as an independent state began in the aftermath of the Somali Civil War in the late 20th century.

Matua has in the recent past earned social media buzz as a self styled anti-corruption crusader. Last year, he captured Ugandans’ attention with his ‘Jesus of Nazareth, Mohammed of Mecca..eh!’ while appearing in parliament as he called out corruption.
