He has dominated Uganda’s music charts with a string of undeniable hits—Carol, santiago and many more accompanied by viral music videos that have collectively racked up millions of views. His name is Lukumani Kaweesi, known to fans across East Africa as Daily Ug.
And he has just returned from Nigeria with something special.
In an exclusive report, Daily Ug can confirm that the Kampala-based hitmaker has completed an intensive recording trip to Lagos, where he worked with top Nigerian producers, engineers, and a yet-to-be-revealed Nigerian female artist to complete his upcoming Extended Play (EP). The project, fully sponsored by his record label Physco Records, will be available on all digital music stores in the coming weeks.
The Lagos Mission: Immersion, Not Vacation
Lukumani Kaweesi did not travel alone. He flew to Nigeria with a full team—his manager, personal sound engineer, video creative director, and a label representative from Physco Records. For twelve days, the team operated out of a professional studio complex in Lekki, Lagos, recording from late afternoon until the early hours of the morning.
“We went there to work, not to sightsee,” a close associate told Daily Ug. “Lukumani was in the booth every single night. He wanted to prove that a Ugandan artist can hold his own in the biggest music market on the continent.”
The result is a multi-track EP that blends Lukumani’s signature melodic storytelling—already beloved in hits like Carol and Santiago—with the crisp percussion, layered synths, and groove-heavy basslines that define contemporary Lagos production.
Nigerian Producers & Engineers: The Sound Behind the EP
Every track on the upcoming EP was produced, mixed, or engineered by Nigerian talent. Physco Records invested heavily to secure sessions with:
Two producers who have previously worked on projects for Asake and BNXN
A mastering engineer affiliated with a major Lagos independent label
A session guitarist who has toured with Burna Boy’s backing band
The decision to keep production entirely Nigerian was intentional. According to sources, Lukumani wanted to absorb the Lagos sound without diluting his own identity—singing predominantly in English and Luganda, with his characteristic smooth delivery.
“The beats hit differently,” one engineer present during the sessions said. “But his voice? That’s all Uganda. You can’t fake that warmth.”
The Nigerian Female Feature: Mystery Collaborator
Perhaps the most anticipated element of the EP is the collaboration with a Nigerian female artist. Her identity remains under wraps, but Daily Ug has learned the following:
She is a rising star with a strong social media presence (over 500,000 Instagram followers)
Her vocal style has been compared to Tems meets Ayra Starr
The collaboration track was recorded over two nights in Victoria Island, Lagos
She also filmed a cameo for the accompanying music video
“There was natural chemistry in the studio,” a member of the recording team shared. “They fed off each other’s energy. The song is romantic but not predictable—it will surprise fans of Carol and Boyfriend.”
The remaining tracks on the EP are solo performances, showcasing Lukumani’s range from vulnerable mid-tempo cuts to dancefloor-ready anthems.
Viral Music Videos: Shot in Lagos, Finished in Kampala
Lukumani Kaweesi has built a reputation for visually stunning music videos. Hits like Carol, Santiago, Byebyebeauty, and Location are remembered as much for their cinematography as for their hooks.
During the Lagos trip, he shot scenes for two of the EP’s tracks:
A rooftop performance at sunset in Lekki Phase 1, with the Lagos skyline behind him
An industrial warehouse scene featuring neon lighting, smoke effects, and a choreographed dance moment
The Nigerian female collaborator appears in the second video. Post-production is currently underway in Kampala, with both videos scheduled for release shortly after the EP drops.
Physco Records: Full Financial & Creative Backing
None of this would have been possible without the support of Physco Records. The label covered:
- Return air tickets for Lukumani and his entire team
- Twelve days of accommodation in Lagos
- Studio rental fees at a premium Lekki facility
- Producer, engineer, and session musician fees
- Feature fee for the Nigerian artist
- Travel and local logistics in Lagos
“This is not a loan. This is an investment,” a Physco Records representative told Daily Ug. “Lukumani has given us hit after hit. Now it’s our turn to give him a project that matches his ambition.”
The label is also handling global distribution, ensuring the EP will be available on all major streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, Boomplay, Audiomack, and YouTube Music.
Release Date & What Fans Should Expect
While the exact title of the EP has not yet been announced, Daily Ug has confirmed that the release is scheduled for mid-to-late next month—approximately three to four weeks from now.
Release plan:
Pre-save campaign launching 10 days before release
Lead single + music video one week before EP drop (featuring the Nigerian cameo)
Full EP available on all digital stores on release day
Second music video arriving one week after the EP
Lukumani Kaweesi is expected to host a private listening session in Kampala for select industry insiders and media about a week prior to release.
A Career-Defining Moment
From Carol to Santiago, from Byebyebeauty to Believe, Lukumani Kaweesi has consistently delivered hits that Ugandans have sung along to in taxis, at weddings, and on late-night radio. But this EP represents something new: a deliberate, fully-funded push beyond borders.
By recording in Lagos, collaborating with Nigerian talent, and returning home with a project that marries two of Africa’s biggest music cultures, Daily Ug the artist is positioning himself for regional—and potentially continental—recognition.
“Ugandan music belongs on every playlist from Nairobi to Accra,” the Physco Records representative added. “This EP is our proof of concept.”
Lukumani Kaweesi is back in Kampala, putting final touches on visual assets and preparing for what may be the most important release of his career. The Nigerian trip is over. The real work—sharing the music with the world—has just begun.
As one insider put it: “You haven’t heard Daily Ug like this before. Just wait for the first 30 seconds of that Nigerian-feature track. That’s all you’ll need.”
