Uganda’s General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, has been honored by the Cuban government for his unwavering solidarity with the island nation. The recognition took place during a commemorative event held at Uganda Christian University, Mukono, on Saturday, January 20th, marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Uganda and Cuba.
The distinguished guest at the event was none other than the Vice President of Cuba, His Excellency Salvador Valdes Mesa, who played a pivotal role as the chief guest. The occasion not only celebrated the longstanding ties between the two nations but also underscored the importance of fostering mutual cooperation.
Due to his commitments, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba was unable to attend the event in person. However, Ugandan lawmaker David Kabanda stepped forward to receive the certificate of recognition on behalf of the General. Kabanda, a representative of the people, acknowledged the honor with gratitude, recognizing the significance of the bond shared between Uganda and Cuba.
General Muhoozi, known for utilizing social media platforms to express his views and promote solidarity, especially on X (formerly Twitter), took to his digital channels to share his appreciation. Following the event, he tweeted, “I am very grateful for the recognition from the Cuban government. Thank you, Honourable Daudi Kabanda, for representing me. Long live the fraternal relations between Uganda and Cuba. Viva Cuba! Viva Uganda!”
The recognition not only highlights General Muhoozi’s personal commitment to fostering international relationships but also signifies the enduring friendship between Uganda and Cuba.
