Inside Gen. Muhoozi High-Level Talks with UK Envoy on Defence, Counter-Terrorism

On Friday afternoon in Entebbe, Her Excellency Lisa Chesney, the UK High Commissioner to Uganda, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, at the Special Forces Command (SFC) Headquarters.

The two leaders held in-depth discussions centered on strengthening the longstanding bilateral defence and security partnership between Uganda and the United Kingdom.

Key areas of focus included regional security cooperation, counter-terrorism efforts, and opportunities to expand military training and capacity-building programmes.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to mutual respect and continued collaboration, emphasizing the importance of sustained dialogue in addressing emerging security challenges.

The meeting follows the CDF’s recent engagement with a delegation from Prince Harry’s Invictus Games Foundation, which is partnering with the UPDF to support the rehabilitation and empowerment of wounded service personnel.

Chesney has an extensive background in counter-terrorism, strategic communications, and international diplomacy.

Uganda and the United Kingdom share a deep-rooted military and diplomatic relationship that dates back to the early post-independence years. The UK has been a key partner in the professionalization of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), particularly through training, peacekeeping support, and counter-insurgency cooperation.

UPDF is the largest troop contributing country to the AUSSOM which ia supported by the UK.

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s personal ties to the UK also underscore this longstanding partnership. A graduate of the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, he received his foundational military training in Britain, an experience that shaped his strategic worldview and leadership approach.
