General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations (SPA/SO), on Wednesday met with the Chinese Ambassador to Uganda, His Excellency Zhang Lizhong, at the Special Forces Command (SFC) Headquarters in Entebbe.

The Wednesday afternoon meeting was a routine review of ongoing projects in the defence and security sector, underscoring the strong bilateral ties between Uganda and China.

During the discussions, General Muhoozi and Ambassador Zhang Lizhong assessed the progress of various collaborative initiatives aimed at enhancing Uganda’s defence capabilities. These projects are part of a broader strategic partnership that includes the provision of military equipment, training programs, and technical support, aimed at bolstering Uganda’s national security infrastructure.

General Muhoozi has been meeting different stakeholders in defence from major powers since he assumed office. In this meeting, he emphasized the importance of the Uganda-China defence relationship, highlighting the mutual benefits of continued cooperation.

Ambassador Zhang Lizhong expressed China’s commitment to supporting Uganda’s defence sector, noting that these projects are vital for maintaining regional stability and security.

This meeting follows a previous one held at the Chinese Embassy in November last year and comes on the heels of General Kainerugaba’s recent meeting with a delegation from China North Industries Group Corporation Limited (NORINCO). These continuous engagements highlight the importance of regular reviews to ensure the successful implementation and sustainability of defence projects.
