The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has honoured President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni with the CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award, recognising his exceptional contribution to the development and transformation of football in Uganda and across the continent.
The award was presented on Wednesday night during the prestigious 2025 CAF Awards ceremony held in Rabat, Morocco.
President Museveni was honoured alongside Kenya’s President William Ruto and Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan. The three East African leaders were celebrated for strengthening football structures, championing youth talent, and supporting major continental sporting programmes.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe praised the East African leaders for their unwavering commitment to improving football infrastructure, investing in youth development, and promoting unity through sport.
“The contributions of Presidents Museveni, Ruto and Samia Suluhu have been exceptional. Their leadership continues to inspire a new generation of African players and fans,” Dr. Motsepe said.
The recognition also highlights Uganda’s recent achievements in regional football cooperation. Under the Pamoja Umbrella, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania successfully co-hosted the CHAN 2024 tournament—demonstrating East Africa’s growing capacity to organise major continental events.
Preparations for the joint hosting of AFCON 2027 are also in advanced stages, with infrastructure development and stadium upgrades underway.
For Uganda, the award underscores President Museveni’s long-standing support toward building sports facilities, nurturing local talent, and elevating the country’s presence on the African football stage.
CAF’s honour cements Museveni’s legacy as a leader who has played a vital role in championing sports as a tool for national development, regional cooperation and youth empowerment.
