Health Minister Hosts Malaria Consortium for Talks on Malaria Eradication

Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng hosted a meeting with top officials from the Malaria Consortium on Tuesday. Joined by the CEO, Dr. James Tiberendana, and the Malaria Consortium Country Director, Dr. Godfrey Magumba, the discussion centered on devising innovative strategies to eliminate and eradicate malaria from the country.

Malaria remains a significant public health concern in Uganda, with a considerable burden on healthcare resources and a detrimental impact on the well-being of the population. Recognizing the urgent need for comprehensive action, Minister Aceng highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts with key partners like the Malaria Consortium, who play a pivotal role in the country’s malaria response efforts.

During the meeting, participants delved into various aspects of malaria prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, exploring potential interventions to address existing challenges and enhance the effectiveness of malaria control initiatives. Leveraging the expertise and resources of the Malaria Consortium, the discussion aimed to identify innovative solutions tailored to the unique needs and circumstances of Uganda.

Aceng expressed appreciation for the longstanding partnership between the Ministry of Health and the Malaria Consortium, acknowledging the organization’s invaluable contributions to malaria control and prevention efforts across the country. She emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration and collective action in achieving the shared goal of a malaria-free Uganda.

Dr. Tiberendana and Dr. Magumba reaffirmed the commitment of the Malaria Consortium to supporting Uganda’s malaria response efforts, highlighting ongoing initiatives and promising avenues for collaboration. They emphasized the importance of adopting a multi-faceted approach that encompasses community engagement, capacity building, research, and innovation to effectively combat malaria.
