Ghana Deports Three Israelis in Tit-for-Tat Move After Airport Incident

Accra, December 10, 2025 — Diplomatic tensions between Ghana and Israel escalated sharply on Wednesday after the Government of Ghana deported three Israeli nationals who arrived in Accra earlier in the day. The move comes in direct response to what authorities described as the “ill-treatment and unwarranted deportation” of three Ghanaian travellers by Israeli officials at Ben Gurion International Airport.

According to senior government sources, the decision was taken as “appropriate reciprocal action” following Sunday’s incident in which seven Ghanaian travellers — including four Members of Parliament — were detained for hours upon arrival in Israel, with three later placed on a flight back to Accra without clear justification.

Ghana’s retaliatory deportations were carried out swiftly, underscoring Accra’s frustration over the treatment of its citizens and its resolve to defend their dignity abroad.

However, by late afternoon, the diplomatic standoff appeared to ease. Officials in Accra confirmed that both governments had engaged in urgent discussions and agreed to an amicable resolution aimed at restoring calm and preventing further escalation.

While the specific terms of the resolution have not yet been disclosed, sources within Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicate that assurances have been exchanged to ensure that future travel by citizens of both countries is handled with full respect for international protocols and the longstanding friendly relations between Ghana and Israel.

The rapid de-escalation is expected to avert what could have become a deeper diplomatic rift, especially given the traditionally warm ties between the two nations.

More details are expected as both sides issue coordinated statements in the coming hours.
