In a special address to visiting military officers from the Bangladesh National Defence College, President Yoweri Museveni lectured the army officers on the significant challenges facing Africa and the importance of unity in overcoming them.
The lecture, held at State House Entebbe yesterday, centered on the issue of identity politics, which the president criticized as a major obstacle to the continent’s progress.
“The primary challenge facing our continent is the misguided ideology of identity politics rooted in tribe, religion, and gender,” President Museveni remarked. “This misdiagnosis distracts us from addressing the real issues at hand.” He emphasized that these divisive ideologies create unnecessary barriers to development and security, preventing the continent from achieving its full potential.
During the lecture, President Museveni outlined three key historical missions for Africa: ensuring prosperity for the people, securing strategic security, and fostering unity based on brotherhood, or “Undugu.” He stressed that these missions are crucial for the continent’s long-term success, adding that focusing on them is the only way to overcome the distractions of identity politics.
“I welcome the visiting delegation to Uganda and wish them the best of luck as they continue their studies and military careers,” President Museveni concluded, extending his good wishes to the officers.
The visit of the Bangladesh military officers highlights Uganda’s commitment to strengthening international military cooperation and promoting the exchange of ideas in security and development.
