Gen Muhoozi: Uganda Open to Hosting Palestinian Refugees

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has said the country is open to hosting some Palestinian refugees under specific conditions, including direct support from the Government of Israel.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Gen Muhoozi explained that the final decision would be made by President Yoweri Museveni, whom he referred to as “Mzee” and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“At first I didn’t support the idea, then Christ reminded me that He is the God of all mankind. Even the Palestinians are His children,” he wrote.

“We have no problem with some Palestinian refugees settling in Uganda, as long as the government of Israel supports their resettlement.”

The CDF stressed that while Uganda could offer refuge on humanitarian grounds, there would be “zero tolerance” for extremist ideologies.

“Of course, we will not tolerate even for a second any idea of Hamas or extremism in any way,” he stated.

Uganda is already one of the world’s leading refugee-hosting nations, sheltering nearly 1.85 million people from conflict-affected countries such as South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Its refugee policy, often praised internationally, grants newcomers freedom of movement, land for farming, and access to public services.
