Uganda has witnessed a significant shift in its military leadership with the appointment of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the new army chief, replacing General Wilson Mbadi.

The army spokesperson, Felux Kulayigye confirmed this change in a statement on Thursday evening, marking a notable change in the country’s defense hierarchy.

General Kainerugaba, who has been serving as the Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations to his father, President Yoweri Museveni, brings a unique blend of experience and familial ties to his new role.

The reshuffle also sees General Mbadi taking on a new role as a state minister, signaling a strategic reconfiguration of personnel within the government. His transition underscores the administration’s commitment to utilizing military expertise in broader governance initiatives.
