Ethiopian Airlines has issued an important update regarding the payment policy for its air tickets.
According to a statement issued by the airline, effective immediately, passenger tickets for flights originating outside of Ethiopia must be purchased in the currency of the country where the journey begins or in hard currency, regardless of where the ticket is purchased.
This change aligns with a new directive from the National Bank of Ethiopia and applies to all airlines operating in Ethiopia.
Key Points of the New Policy:
For Tickets Originating Outside Ethiopia:
Tickets must be purchased in the currency of the country where the journey begins or in hard currency.
2. For Tickets Originating From Ethiopia:
Ethiopians and foreigners with a Resident Permit, Work Permit, Diplomatic ID, or Yellow Card issued by the Ethiopian government can still purchase tickets in local currency (ETB).
Foreigners buying tickets in Ethiopia must pay in hard currency.
For additional information or assistance, passengers can visit Ethiopian Airlines’ ticket offices, local travel agencies, or call the Global Call International Centre at 6787 locally. More details are available on the Ethiopian Airlines website here.
