Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has inaugurated Sky Win Aeronautics Industries, hailing the milestone as a transformative achievement in the country’s technological advancement.
“As we commission Sky Win Aeronautics Industries today, we witness an extraordinary accomplishment that was once unimaginable. The drones before us—designed and built by our own talented young professionals—symbolize Ethiopia’s growing capacity for innovation and self-reliance,” Abiy stated.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of sustained investment in research and development to maintain momentum in Ethiopia’s drone industry. “To ensure continued progress, we must prioritize ongoing research, expand our market reach, and enhance local production of smart sensor technologies,” he noted.
Highlighting Ethiopia’s strategic vision for defense advancements, Abiy underscored that these efforts are geared toward ensuring national security through deterrence rather than aggression.
“Our work in developing these capabilities—alongside the progress at Homicho Ammunition Engineering Industry—is not aimed at fueling conflict but at preventing it. A strong defense capacity serves as a safeguard for peace and stability in the face of external threats.”
Sky Win Aeronautics Industries is set to produce state-of-the-art drones for a wide range of applications, including security, surveillance, agriculture, and infrastructure monitoring. The facility marks a crucial step in Ethiopia’s push toward self-sufficiency in advanced technology manufacturing, reinforcing its position as an emerging player in the global defense and aerospace sector.
