Ethiopia Hosts AU High-Level Panel on Sudan, Emphasizes Importance of Sudanese-Led Peace Process

Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Taye Atske Selassie, hosted officials from the African Union High-Level Panel on Sudan, led by H.E. Muhammed Ibn Chambas, Ambassador Francisco Maderia, and former Vice President of Uganda Dr. Specioza Kazibwe.

The panel provided an overview of their recent shuttle diplomacy and consultations with regional leaders aimed at facilitating peace in Sudan.

During the meeting, Minister Taye Atske Selassie underscored the critical importance of a Sudanese-led and African Union-supported peace process. Emphasizing the need for ownership and leadership from Sudanese stakeholders, he reiterated Ethiopia’s commitment to supporting efforts for sustainable peace and stability in the region.

The AU High-Level Panel briefed Minister Taye Atske Selassie on their engagements with key regional leaders, highlighting the significance of inclusive dialogue and cooperation among Sudanese parties. They discussed the importance of addressing underlying issues and grievances to pave the way for a durable peace settlement in Sudan.

In line with Ethiopia’s longstanding commitment to peace and security in the Horn of Africa, Minister Taye Atske Selassie reiterated Ethiopia’s readiness to collaborate with the AU High-Level Panel and other stakeholders to advance the peace process in Sudan. He affirmed Ethiopia’s support for initiatives that prioritize Sudanese ownership and AU leadership in resolving the country’s challenges.
