The Electoral Commission (EC) on Tuesday evening received a consignment of presidential ballot papers as preparations intensify for Uganda’s forthcoming 2026 General Election.

The delivery, which took place under tight security, was witnessed by key electoral stakeholders, including representatives of presidential candidates, political parties, accredited election observers, and members of the media. The exercise was conducted in line with the Commission’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and public confidence in the electoral process.

According to the EC, the ballot papers were received from the official printer and verified upon arrival to ensure they meet the required specifications, including security features, quantities, and quality standards. The Commission noted that the presence of stakeholders during the delivery was intended to enhance openness and reduce suspicion surrounding the handling of sensitive electoral materials.

“This process is part of our broader roadmap to ensure a credible, free, and fair election,” an Electoral Commission official said, adding that all electoral materials are handled in accordance with the law and established procedures.

Following the receipt, the ballot papers are expected to be securely stored and later distributed to districts across the country ahead of polling day, under the supervision of the EC and security agencies. Similar transparent procedures are expected to be followed during distribution, polling, counting, and tallying.

Political party representatives and observers welcomed the exercise, describing it as a positive step toward building trust in the electoral process, while urging the Commission to maintain the same level of openness throughout all stages of the election.

Uganda is preparing for the 2026 General Election, which will see voters elect the President, Members of Parliament, and local government leaders. The Electoral Commission has repeatedly assured the public that it is ready to conduct elections that reflect the will of the people and comply with constitutional and legal requirements.

The EC is expected to continue engaging stakeholders and updating the public as key milestones in the electoral calendar are reached.
