Uganda’s Electoral Commission (EC) has revised the electoral roadmap, moving the start of presidential campaigns from October 4 to September 29, 2025.
The announcement was made on Friday by EC Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama, during the official opening of the Commission’s new state-of-the-art headquarters along Lweza–Entebbe Road.
Justice Byabakama revealed that the decision to adjust the campaign dates was aimed at ensuring a smooth electoral process and giving candidates sufficient time to engage the electorate ahead of the 2026 General Elections.
He further disclosed that the nomination of presidential candidates will take place next week, on September 23–24, 2025, at the new EC headquarters.
This marks the first major national event to be hosted at the facility, which is now the administrative hub of Uganda’s electoral processes.
“The Electoral Commission is committed to delivering a free, fair, and transparent election. This new headquarters and the adjustments we have made to the campaign program reflect our readiness to manage the forthcoming elections efficiently,” Justice Byabakama stated.
The unveiling of the new premises is seen as a milestone in strengthening the Commission’s capacity, offering a modern working environment for staff and serving as a secure and accessible venue for critical electoral activities.
With the revised roadmap, presidential hopefuls will now have an extended window to traverse the country, unveil their manifestos, and rally support ahead of polling day in 2026.
