Dr. Richard Kabanda Re-Elected to Lead Africa’s Community Health Coordination

Dr. Richard Kabanda has been re-elected by 43 African Countries currently convening in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia as the Chair of the Africa Continental Coordination Mechanism on Community Health.

Dr. Kabanda has been serving in the same position since November 2023, and he will now serve for an additional two year term.

The Chairperson position has been contested for by Uganda and Gabon. Dr. Kabanda has received African block votes from Eastern, Southern and Western Africa regions, which gave him a majority vote.
Dr. Alinda from Gabon has won Central and Northern Regions.

Dr. Richard Kabanda is expected to offer Technical Coordination Leadership in Africa in strengthening Community Health Systems in advancement of Primary Health Care.

Other Technical members appointed on the committee are from Zambia, Morocco, Gabon, and Cote d’Voire.
