The Tanzanian archipelago of Zanzibar, renowned for its stunning beaches, rich history, and vibrant culture, will introduce new travel regulations from October 1, 2024.

Visitors to the island will be required to purchase a US$44 travel insurance policy, in addition to the Tanzania e-Visa.

This mandate applies to all tourists, with the exception of Zanzibar residents. The move is aimed at enhancing tourism safety and management, ensuring that travelers are covered in case of emergencies during their stay.

Zanzibar has long been a favorite destination for tourists from around the world, attracting visitors with its picturesque shores, historic Stone Town, and unique spice tours.

The island offers a blend of cultural experiences, including Swahili cuisine, dhow sailing trips, and access to some of Africa’s most pristine coral reefs. The introduction of the mandatory insurance policy is seen as part of Zanzibar’s ongoing efforts to improve its tourism infrastructure and ensure that visitors can explore the island with added security.
