President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has met with the High Command of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) at State House, Entebbe, to review the country’s security situation and assess Uganda’s strategic priorities.

In a statement issued after the meeting, Museveni thanked the Chief of Defence Forces and all officers and men of the UPDF for their discipline, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding Uganda’s peace and sovereignty.

“Our stability is built on vigilance, unity, and patriotism,” the President noted, pledging government’s commitment to strengthening Uganda’s defence capacity to ensure the country remains secure while focused on social and economic transformation.

WHO ATTENDED

The meeting was attended by top UPDF leadership, including the Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba; Deputy CDF, Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding; Commander of Land Forces, Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga; Commander of the Reserve Force, Lt. Gen. Otema Awany; Commander of the Air Force, Lt. Gen. Charles Okidi; and Commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC), Maj. Gen. David Mugisha, among other service commanders and chiefs.

Representatives from the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs were also present, including Minister Jacob Oboth-Oboth, State Minister Huda Oleru, and Permanent Secretary Ms. Rosette Byengoma.

Post-Election Security Review

The high-level security meeting comes in the aftermath of Uganda’s recently concluded general elections, which were praised by observers as the most peaceful in the country’s election history.

During the recent Tarehe Sita celebrations earlier this month, Gen. Muhoozi commended security forces for ensuring a calm and orderly electoral process and thanked Ugandans for cooperating with security agencies to maintain peace throughout the election period.

Regional Operations

Beyond Uganda’s borders, the UPDF continues to play a significant role in regional security. The force is currently involved in operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), South Sudan, the Central African Republic, and Somalia, underscoring Uganda’s broader security footprint in the Great Lakes and Horn of Africa regions.

The High Command meeting therefore not only reviewed domestic stability but also assessed external engagements and Uganda’s evolving strategic posture in a complex regional environment.
