Denmark Reaffirms Commitment to Effective Implementation of Development Projects in Uganda

The Danish Embassy, in collaboration with the Ugandan government through the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, held the Annual Portfolio Review yesterday. The meeting focused on assessing the progress of ongoing projects under Denmark’s bilateral development program in Uganda.

During the review, Denmark reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the smooth implementation of projects while maintaining a transparent and regular dialogue with Ugandan counterparts. This partnership covers key areas such as climate change adaptation, health, and private sector development, aimed at enhancing Uganda’s sustainable growth.

The Danish delegation, led by Ambassador Signe Winding Albjerg, highlighted the importance of continued collaboration to achieve shared goals.

“Thank you Ministry of Finance, government and other relevant MDAs and all our implementing partners for today’s open and constructive dialogue on progress and challenges in our development cooperation. This is crucial to drive progress to the benefit of Ugandans,” she stated.

Also in attendance was the Deputy head of mission, Mr Adam Spliid.

Denmark and Uganda have been close development partners for over 30 years, with Denmark supporting various sectors including education, health, climate change, and good governance under DANIDA, the European country’s International Development Agency.

The current bilateral development program (2023-2028) worth an estimated DKK 650 million (Shs336.7bn) aims to promote a green, sustainable, and inclusive economic transformation, focusing on climate adaptation and refugee support. Denmark remains committed to strengthening democratic values, human rights, and civic space in Uganda, while also promoting trade and investment. Regular portfolio reviews ensure effective implementation and foster ongoing cooperation between the two nations.
