Danish Embassy in Uganda Calls for Young Leaders to Join New Youth Sounding Board

The Royal Danish Embassy in Uganda has opened applications for its Uganda Youth Sounding Board (UYSB) for the 2024-2026 term, aimed at empowering young Ugandans to contribute directly to international development initiatives and policies. With a staggering 78% of Uganda’s population under 30 years old, the nation holds a significant pool of youth potential that remains largely untapped amidst challenges such as the highest youth unemployment rate in sub-Saharan Africa at 65%.

Established in 2020, the UYSB is a platform for proactive engagement of young people in shaping relevant policies and programs. The board provides a space for young representatives from civil society, public, and private sectors to offer insights and ideas that influence the Embassy’s work in Uganda, including development cooperation efforts.

The Embassy emphasizes the crucial role of youth in development, aligning with Denmark’s strategy of fostering meaningful youth participation within its global partnerships. Board members are involved in strategic discussions, raising awareness, and facilitating exchanges on significant issues impacting youth.

Members of the UYSB, who are not paid but receive coverage for travel and related expenses, are selected to serve a three-year term. The board, consisting of 15 young leaders who either engage in initiatives supported by Denmark or represent youth interests in Uganda, meets at least twice a year.

The application is open to Ugandans between 15 and 27 years old who are fluent in English and a local language and have demonstrated community involvement and a passion for development. Priority will be given to applicants previously affiliated with Danish-supported initiatives and those active in community engagement through social media.

Interested candidates are encouraged to apply by April 19, 2024, by submitting a motivation letter and application form in English to the designated email address (kmtamb@um.dk). This initiative not only aims to harness the potential of Ugandan youth but also to ensure diverse and inclusive representation on the board, including those from minority groups or with disabilities.
