Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, has congratulated Ambassador Adonia Ayebare following his appointment in Uganda’s new government, while reaffirming Havana’s commitment to strengthening ties with Kampala.

In a message addressed to Ayebare, Rodríguez described him as a trusted friend of Cuba and expressed confidence in his leadership within international diplomacy.

“We congratulate @adoniaayebare on his election as Chancellor of Uganda,” Rodríguez said.

“We reaffirm our determination to continue strengthening the close ties between our sister countries.”

The Cuban Foreign Minister added that Ayebare’s leadership would continue to carry influence within the global south, particularly through the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

“Under your leadership, the members of the Non-Aligned Movement will continue to act in defense of international peace and security, International Law, sovereign equality, the right to development, and the free self-determination of peoples,” Rodríguez said.

The message places Ayebare’s appointment firmly in the international spotlight, with foreign governments already responding to President Yoweri Museveni’s decision to appoint the veteran diplomat as Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Ayebare assumes the role after serving as Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, where he played a central role in representing Uganda on global diplomatic issues ranging from regional peace and security to development cooperation and multilateral negotiations.

His appointment has attracted praise from across diplomatic circles, with regional and international leaders viewing his return to Kampala as a boost to Uganda’s foreign policy establishment.

Cuba and Uganda have maintained warm bilateral relations for decades, built around cooperation in health, education, political solidarity and South-South engagement through platforms such as the Non-Aligned Movement and the Group of 77.

Rodríguez’s message is the latest in a growing number of congratulatory messages from foreign leaders following Ayebare’s appointment, reinforcing expectations that Uganda’s diplomacy under his leadership will continue to carry weight on both the regional and international stage.
