China’s Ambassador to Uganda Zhang Lizhong, has reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to supporting the school feeding program in the Karamoja region.
The ambassador highlighted China’s collaboration with the Government of Uganda and the World Food Programme (WFP) in funding the initiative, aimed at improving nutrition and education outcomes for children in Karamoja.
The school feeding program, a vital component of Uganda’s efforts to enhance educational access and nutrition, will see the purchase of maize, beans, and other essential commodities from local farmers in Karamoja. This approach not only supports the region’s agriculture sector but also ensures sustainable sourcing of ingredients for the meals provided to school children.
Ambassador Zhang emphasized that the initiative will benefit 300 schools in Karamoja, underscoring its significant impact on the local community. By investing in the school feeding program, China demonstrates its commitment to promoting social development and improving the well-being of vulnerable populations in Uganda.
China’s continued support for initiatives like the school feeding program reflects its dedication to addressing these pressing issues and contributing to sustainable development efforts in Uganda.
