KAMPALA, UGANDA — Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has held talks with Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Etsegenet Bezabih Yimenu, reaffirming the longstanding diplomatic and defence partnership between the two countries.

The meeting was held at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe and focused on the historical relations between Uganda and Ethiopia, regional security and opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation.

Gen Kainerugaba commended Ambassador Yimenu for her contribution towards strengthening relations between Kampala and Addis Ababa during her diplomatic tour of duty in Uganda.

He described Uganda and Ethiopia as important pillars of regional stability whose relations have been shaped by shared historical experiences, cooperation during African liberation struggles and participation in African Union peace-support operations, particularly in Somalia.

The CDF said the two countries share a common commitment to addressing regional security challenges and promoting peace and stability across the continent.

He also highlighted the regular high-level engagements between the governments of Uganda and Ethiopia, describing them as evidence of the strong friendship, mutual respect and strategic understanding between the two nations.

Ambassador Yimenu thanked Gen Kainerugaba for receiving her and expressed appreciation for the support extended by Ugandan authorities during Ethiopia’s Adwa victory commemorations held at Kololo earlier this year.

She said Uganda’s support for the celebrations reflected the deep historical and people-to-people relations between the two countries.

The ambassador also briefed the CDF about the conclusion of Ethiopia’s recent elections and conveyed appreciation to President Yoweri Museveni and the Government of Uganda for their congratulatory message.

The two officials reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with particular emphasis on defence cooperation, regional peace and security.

Uganda and Ethiopia have maintained close diplomatic relations and have worked together through regional and continental frameworks aimed at responding to security threats and promoting stability in the Horn of Africa and the wider East African region.
