Kenya has been fined $50,000 (about KSh 6.5 million) by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for multiple safety and security breaches during the African Nations Championship (CHAN) match against Morocco at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The decision, announced by the CAF Disciplinary Board, followed a review of incidents during the game, where CAF cited lapses in crowd management, insufficient security deployment, and failure to implement agreed road closures on match day.
These breaches, CAF said, posed significant risks to players, officials, and spectators.
In a strongly worded warning, CAF said Kenya’s national team risked having future home matches relocated to Uganda or Tanzania if similar failures occurred again.
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) was advised to “increase security measures by deploying sufficient personnel within the perimeter of the stadium as well as adhering to the road closures on match days” in line with CAF’s safety regulations.
The Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, has hosted some of Kenya’s most high-profile football events, but CAF’s latest ruling raises questions about the venue’s compliance with international match-day safety standards — particularly as the country co-hosts CHAN 2024 with Tanzania.
Other Disciplinary Decisions
The CAF Disciplinary Board also issued fines to other federations during its sitting:

Zambia – The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) was fined $5,000 for breaching CAF’s media regulations after failing to present head coach Avram Grant at the mandatory pre-match press conference before their game against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Morocco – The Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF) was fined $5,000 for the inappropriate conduct of its players during the match against Kenya. However, $2,500 of that amount is suspended, on condition that no similar misconduct occurs for the remainder of CHAN 2024.
CAF stated that all fines must be settled within 60 days of the official notification.
