Justice (Rtd) Dr. George Wilson Kanyeihamba, one of Uganda’s most prominent legal minds and constitutional scholars, has died. He passed away on Monday, sources close to the family confirmed.
Justice Kanyeihamba served as a Justice of the Supreme Court from 1997 until his retirement in 2009. A former Minister of Justice and Attorney General, he played a central role in shaping Uganda’s legal framework, including chairing the Legal Committee of the 1995 Constitution-making process.
His death marks the end of an era in Uganda’s legal and academic spheres. More details about the cause of death and burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
