In the early hours of this morning, at 0110hrs, an alarming incident unfolded at the border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Rwanda Defence Forces says in a statement issued a while ago.

Three armed soldiers from the DRC Armed Forces (FARDC) crossed into Rwanda, specifically at Rubavu District in the Rubavu Sector.

Rwandan Defense Force (RDF) patrols, supported by the local neighborhood watch group known as Irondo,  responded to the breach. In the operation, two of the DRC soldiers, identified as Sgt Asman Mupenda Termite (30 years old) and Cpl Anyasaka Nkoi Lucien (28 years old), were apprehended without any casualties on the Rwandan side.

The arrested FARDC soldiers were found in possession of a significant arsenal, including one AK-47 rifle, four magazines loaded with a total of 105 rounds, a protective vest, and sachets of cannabis, according to a statement issued by Rwanda Defence Force.

Tragically, the situation took a more intense turn when the third soldier resisted arrest and reportedly opened fire on the RDF patrols. He was shot dead by Rwandan troops.
