Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed participants to the 28th edition of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) with a powerful message emphasizing shared values, sovereign development, and inclusive global cooperation.

In a message to the diverse audience of policymakers, business leaders, scholars, and experts from around the world, Putin said the forum would offer a platform to assess current global and national economic challenges, share ideas, and shape future strategies in a rapidly changing world.

“This year’s theme, ‘Shared Values: The Foundation of Growth in a Multipolar World’, reflects our firm belief that respect for cultural and civilizational identity, sovereignty, and partnership among equals must form the basis of international cooperation,” Putin said.

Held in the historic city of St. Petersburg, a symbol of Russia’s rich cultural and intellectual heritage, the forum brings together delegates from across the globe, reinforcing Moscow’s vision of a world order not dictated by sanctions or unilateral influence.

Putin highlighted the importance of digital transformation and technology as engines of modern leadership and social development. He also pointed to the need for investment in demographic stability, labour productivity, science, education, healthcare, and social protection.

In a veiled critique of Western-led systems, Putin reiterated Russia’s push for a cooperative model that rejects “discrimination, dictate, and sanctions pressure,” framing SPIEF as a crucial venue for promoting mutual respect and growth.

The summit will feature plenary sessions, business dialogues, youth and creative economy events, and strategic roundtables aimed at shaping a new global agenda amid shifting geopolitical tides.

“I am confident your discussions will be productive and will contribute meaningfully to addressing the pressing challenges facing humanity,” Putin concluded.
