Ambassador Nusura Tiperu, ICT Ministry Explore Uganda–Türkiye Digital Economy Collaboration

KAMPALA – Uganda and Türkiye have taken another step toward strengthening bilateral cooperation in information and communications technology (ICT), with discussions focused on leveraging digital innovation to support economic transformation and increase the sector’s contribution to national development.

Uganda’s Ambassador to Türkiye, H.E. Nusura Tiperu, held high-level talks with State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwawo, on positioning Uganda to benefit from Türkiye’s internationally recognised expertise in digital public infrastructure, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, innovation ecosystems and emerging technologies.

The meeting explored practical avenues for innovative technology development transfer (ITDT), institutional partnerships, research collaboration, investment promotion and skills development aimed at accelerating Uganda’s transition into a knowledge-based, innovation-driven economy.

Both leaders underscored the growing importance of ICT as a catalyst for economic growth, job creation and industrial competitiveness, noting that digital transformation will be central to Uganda’s long-term development agenda.

The engagement also laid the foundation for enhanced cooperation ahead of the upcoming Uganda–Türkiye–Gulf States Business Summit and the Uganda–Türkiye Health, Science, Technology and Innovation Summit, where digital technologies are expected to feature prominently in discussions on sustainable development, digital inclusion and industrial transformation.

Officials believe stronger collaboration with Türkiye could help Uganda expand its digital infrastructure, strengthen cybersecurity resilience, promote AI adoption and foster innovation-led entrepreneurship.

The discussions reflected the two countries’ shared commitment to building partnerships that extend beyond traditional diplomacy to deliver practical technological solutions, stimulate investment and create new opportunities for businesses and citizens alike.

As Uganda advances its digital transformation roadmap, cooperation with Türkiye is expected to contribute to expanding the ICT sector’s role in economic growth while supporting the country’s ambition to become a regional hub for innovation and technology.
