Ambassador Adonia Ayebare, Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, presided over the first productive meeting as the newly appointed Chair of the G77+China group. The meeting, held in New York, saw the adoption of the annual Programme of work and a comprehensive discussion on key upcoming UN processes.
He addressed the gathering, outlining the agenda for Uganda’s Chairmanship of the G 77+China. The discussions covered a spectrum of crucial international issues, including the Summit of the future negotiations, the Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States, the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, Climate Change negotiations, the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, and various coordination roles of the Group.
One of the focal points of the meeting was Ambassador Ayebare’s commitment to guiding Uganda’s Chairmanship with the principles of transparency, cohesion, and solidarity. The ambassador emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing global challenges and ensuring that the G 77 and China play a pivotal role in advancing the interests of developing countries on the international stage.
The Summit of the future negotiations, the International Conference on Small Island Developing States, and the Climate Change negotiations were highlighted as critical events where the G 77+China will actively engage in shaping policies that reflect the needs and concerns of their member nations.
