African Ambassadors In Uganda Kick-off Preparations For Africa Day Fête

H.E. Etsegenet Bezabih Yimenu, Ambassador of Ethiopia to Uganda, today hosted the monthly meeting of the African Ambassadors’ Group at her residence in Kampala, bringing together top diplomats to coordinate preparations for the upcoming Africa Day 2026.

The meeting opened with remarks from the Dean of the group, H.E. Joseph Rutabana, who also serves as High Commissioner of the Rwanda to Uganda. This was followed by a welcome address from the host ambassador, who underscored the importance of unity and collaboration among African diplomatic missions.

Deliberations centered on planning for Africa Day 2026, with ambassadors reaching key decisions on the structure, coordination, and execution of the celebrations in Uganda.

The meeting also featured country briefings, offering updates on regional and continental developments, and provided a platform to formally welcome newly accredited ambassadors to the diplomatic community in Kampala.

Beyond official discussions, the gathering highlighted Ethiopia’s rich cultural heritage. Guests were treated to traditional Ethiopian hospitality, including a curated cuisine experience and the iconic coffee ceremony, prepared meticulously “from the green beans to the sips”, symbolizing community, respect, and shared African identity.

The monthly forum continues to serve as a vital platform for strengthening diplomatic ties, fostering cooperation, and advancing collective African interests within Uganda and beyond.
