South Sudan’s Special Envoy, Adut Kiir—who is also the daughter of President Salva Kiir Mayardit—paid a high-level courtesy call on South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in Pretoria on Friday, reinforcing the strong and growing relationship between the two nations.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, advancing regional peace initiatives, and deepening strategic partnerships between South Sudan and South Africa. President Ramaphosa welcomed the envoy and reaffirmed Pretoria’s continued support for South Sudan’s peace consolidation and long-term development efforts.
Adut Kiir expressed appreciation for South Africa’s steadfast partnership, noting that Pretoria has remained a critical ally in supporting peace, stability, and institution-building in South Sudan. She emphasized Juba’s commitment to working closely with South Africa on shared priorities spanning governance, security, and economic cooperation.
During the engagement, the Special Envoy delivered a message from President Salva Kiir Mayardit, underscoring the importance of cooperation, solidarity, and mutual friendship between the two countries.
South Sudan and South Africa share long-standing ties rooted in liberation solidarity and collaborative engagement through regional mechanisms such as the African Union and IGAD. Friday’s meeting is expected to open doors for enhanced diplomatic coordination and new areas of cooperation.
