Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has granted an official burial to His Majesty the Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who passed away this week.
According to a statement issued by the presidency following the King’s death, the National Organising Committee (N.O.C) is working closely with the Tooro Kingdom and Ministers from Tooro to organise a befitting send-off for the late monarch.
“President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Gen. Kaguta Museveni, has granted an official burial to His Majesty the Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV,” Minister Milly Babalanda, the Minister of the Presidency’s statement said.
It added that further details regarding the burial arrangements will be communicated in due course.
King Oyo, who ascended to the Tooro throne in 1995 at the age of three, became one of Uganda’s most prominent cultural leaders and was the longest-serving reigning monarch in the country.
His death has triggered an outpouring of condolences from leaders in Uganda and beyond, with tributes highlighting his role in promoting the cultural heritage and development of the Tooro Kingdom.
The Tooro Kingdom has also announced that the continuity of the Crown is assured, with the late King leaving behind a Prince who will be formally identified as his heir in accordance with the traditions and customs of the Kingdom.
