With President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni now officially sworn in for a new term, attention in Kampala has sharply shifted to what is expected to be the next major political event: the announcement of a new Cabinet.

Reports indicate the list is now imminent, with intense anticipation and lobbying building across government circles for any last minute chances to be included.

Traditionally, Museveni unveils a new Cabinet shortly after taking oath, a process that often triggers both celebration and heartbreak within the ruling establishment. This time, insiders say the stakes are unusually high, with ministers, technocrats and political operatives anxiously waiting for the President’s final call.

The CDF General Muhoozi Kainerygaba whose voice carries significan weight, has recently indicated his wishes for the next cabinet.

The atmosphere within government remains tense. Several outgoing ministers are said to have already vacated offices in anticipation of changes, while lobbying and behind-the-scenes maneuvering reportedly intensified in recent days as hopefuls scrambled to position themselves for consideration.

Political insiders believe the upcoming list could carry major surprises. The list which is Museveni’s best kept secret now, is expected to feature many new faces.

There is growing speculation that Museveni may use this time to inject younger faces into government while rewarding loyal political mobilizers and technocrats viewed as effective performers. At the same time, ministers who lost parliamentary races are widely seen as vulnerable, unless rescued through presidential discretion.

This suspense has fueled nonstop political chatter in Kampala, with social media, WhatsApp groups and power circles awash with predictions over who stays, who falls and who could emerge as the new power players in the next administration.

For now, however, the final decision remains tightly guarded at State House.

Reports indicate the man from Rwakitura will release the list as soon as possible since he may need government constituted task force involving cabinet ministers to handle the ebola threat.
