Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has announced that all Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Members of Parliament and PLU-leaning legislators will support Thomas Tayebwa for the position of Deputy Speaker.
In a statement shared on X, Muhoozi said the decision followed guidance from the Commander-in-Chief, President Yoweri Museveni.
“On the issue of Deputy Speaker, after getting guidance from the Commander-in-Chief, all PLU MPs and PLU leaning MPs will support Rt. Honourable Thomas Tayebwa for that position,” Muhoozi stated.
The endorsement is expected to further strengthen Tayebwa’s position within the ruling National Resistance Movement as internal alignments ahead of the 12th Parliament continue to take shape.
Muhoozi’s statement comes amid heated discussions surrounding the deputy speaker position following recent developments in the Speakership race.
