Young graduates with a passion for international relations and a desire to delve into the workings of diplomatic missions have a new opportunity on the horizon. The EU Delegation to Uganda has announced a funded traineeship program, set to commence in October 2024, inviting applications from eager candidates to join its Political Press and Information Section.

The traineeship, which extends up to six months, presents a unique chance for participants to immerse themselves in the dynamic field of political press and information within the context of EU-Uganda relations. Successful applicants will be tasked with a range of responsibilities, including researching and analyzing information, drafting analytical reports on policies and current affairs, supporting event preparations, and participating in external meetings and events.

Candidates are expected to meet certain qualifications, including possessing at least a Bachelor’s Diploma in political science, social science, journalism, or economics, along with a strong command of English. Motivation, initiative, and a keen interest in EU affairs and international relations are also essential qualities sought in applicants. Additional assets include ongoing or completed Master studies in relevant fields, knowledge of Uganda’s parliamentary affairs and political landscape, and experience in data analysis and team coordination.

Applicants currently residing in Uganda will receive priority consideration, taking into account local health and security conditions. Those interested in applying are required to submit a detailed Europass curriculum vitae, a cover letter explaining their interest in the traineeship, and an application form to the designated email address, with the subject line clearly indicating the specific traineeship opportunity.

Selected candidates will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses, though all other costs, including travel, visa, insurance, and accommodation, will be the responsibility of the trainee. EU citizens applying for the program must ensure they meet specific requirements, including pandemic insurance coverage and relevant visas or permits as per local legislation.

The deadline for applications is May 15, 2024, after which shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews. While unsuccessful candidates will be notified via email, those selected must be prepared to provide the necessary documentation to proceed with the traineeship.

This initiative not only provides valuable experience for young graduates but also reinforces the EU’s commitment to fostering partnerships and promoting understanding between nations. It represents a stepping stone for aspiring diplomats and international relations enthusiasts to gain firsthand insights into the intricacies of diplomacy within the context of EU-Uganda relations.
