In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday, the Venezuelan government expressed its firm rejection of interference from a coalition of what it calls right-wing governments aligned with Washington.
This group has been accused of attempting to undermine Sunday’s Presidential Elections, which resulted in the re-election of Nicolas Maduro as President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela for a new constitutional period from 2025 to 2031.
The country’s National Electoral Council says Maduro secured 51% of the vote, overcoming opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez at 44%.
In a s statement, Venezuela criticized the group’s attempts to replicate the failed Lima Group, a coalition that previously sought to delegitimize the Venezuelan electoral process. They denounced the actions of these governments as an affront to the sovereignty of Venezuela and an endorsement of “the most sordid ideological postulates of international fascism.”
The election results, affirmed Maduro’s position despite ongoing economic challenges within the country. Venezuelan authorities insist that the electoral process was free and fair, calling for recognition from the international community.
