Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Thursday announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United States for the construction of five military bases.
The locations for these bases of the Somali National Army (SNA) Danab Brigade include; Baidoa, Dhusamareb, Jowhar, Kismayo, and the capital city, Mogadishu.
President Mohamud praised the support from the United States, referring to it as a “significant contribution” to the government’s ongoing efforts to establish a robust national army capable of assuming security responsibilities and effectively countering the threat of international terrorism, particularly from the al-Shabaab militant group.
The signing ceremony took place in Mogadishu on Thursday, with US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Molly Phee, in attendance. Phee’s presence emphasized the commitment of the United States to collaborating with Somalia in strengthening its security apparatus.
