The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) Registrar General, Ms. Mercy K. Kainobwisho, has reaffirmed the agency’s pivotal role in fostering private sector growth and enhancing Uganda’s investment climate.

She made these remarks during a Business and Innovation Forum for commercial attachés held at URSB headquarters in Kololo.

The forum brought together foreign diplomats, government ministers, URSB board members, and other stakeholders to discuss URSB’s ongoing reforms and innovations aimed at making Uganda a more attractive investment destination.

Ms. Kainobwisho highlighted URSB’s historical role, noting that the agency, established in 1910, is the custodian of critical business and legal records spanning over a century. While civil registration responsibilities were transferred to the National Identification Registration Authority (NIRA), URSB continues to manage company registrations, name changes, and legal documents.

“We hold valuable information on movable property, company insolvency, liquidation, and bankruptcy cases,” she explained. “Our intellectual property records, including trademarks, patents, designs, and utility models, date back to the 1960s.”

She emphasized the bureau’s role in public service, ensuring that citizens and businesses can access verified legal and business information essential for daily transactions.

With regional offices across Uganda, URSB remains a cornerstone of the country’s business registration and intellectual property infrastructure, providing critical services to both local and foreign investors.
