Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, on Thursday held talks with H.E. Anh Tuan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, who was accompanied by H.E. Vu Than Huyen, Ambassador-designate of Vietnam to Uganda.

During the meeting, Ambassador Huyen presented copies of her Letters of Credence to the Minister, marking the formal start of her diplomatic mission in Uganda.

Both delegations pledged their commitment to deepening bilateral relations, recalling the historic State Visit of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to Vietnam in November 2022, which paved the way for stronger cooperation between the two nations.

Talks focused on expanding collaboration in trade, investment, agriculture, and multilateral diplomacy.

Vietnam invited Uganda to participate in the upcoming signing of the UN “Hanoi Convention” against cybercrime and also sought Uganda’s support for its candidacy in international forums.

Uganda, on its part, welcomed Vietnam’s proposals on joint ventures and emphasized the importance of concluding pending cooperation agreements, especially in agriculture and fisheries.
