Uganda, UN Drugs Boss Discuss Combating Drugs, Crime, and Enhance Regional Security

Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Hon. John Mulimba, recently met with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Representative for East Africa, Ms. Ashita Mittal, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala.

The meeting focused on strengthening efforts to combat drugs and crime, key priorities for Uganda’s national security and stability.

During the discussions, Hon. Mulimba expressed gratitude to UNODC for its longstanding support in enhancing peace, security, human rights, and development, contributing to a world safer from drugs, crime, corruption, and terrorism.

He affirmed Uganda’s commitment to collaborating with international partners while championing African-led solutions to these shared challenges. Highlighting Uganda’s dedication to sustainable peace, Hon. Mulimba emphasized solidarity with neighboring countries and the international community.

Ms. Mittal reaffirmed UNODC’s support for Uganda’s stability and development initiatives, noting the organization’s commitment to assisting Uganda in its fight against drug addiction, cyber-crime, and human trafficking. Both parties recognized the importance of regional cooperation and agreed to explore new partnership avenues that address critical security issues and advance their shared goals.

The meeting concluded with a mutual pledge to deepen collaboration, reinforcing a shared vision for peace, security, and regional stability.
