The meeting, which lasted approximately 40 minutes, took place in Japan as part of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting, and it underscored the strong and enduring relationship between Japan and Uganda.
At the outset of the discussions, State Minister Tsuji expressed his desire to further develop the bilateral relationship between Japan and Uganda and to enhance cooperation on the international stage. He highlighted Japan’s longstanding commitment to Uganda’s development, noting that Japan has supported Uganda in various fields, including infrastructure and human resource development, for over 60 years.
Minister Okello, in response, expressed his appreciation for the ongoing progress in bilateral relations and conveyed his eagerness to strengthen the friendly ties between the two nations. He acknowledged Japan’s significant contributions to Uganda’s development and emphasized the importance of continued assistance and investment from Japan.
During the meeting, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening Japan-Uganda relations, particularly in the lead-up to TICAD IX, which is scheduled to take place next year. They also engaged in discussions on broader international issues, including cooperation on Security Council reform, reflecting their shared interest in contributing to global peace and stability.
The meeting between State Minister Tsuji and Minister Okello marks a continued effort by both Japan and Uganda to enhance their diplomatic and economic ties.
