The events are scheduled to take place from January 15th to the 23rd, 2024, at the prestigious Speke Resort Munyonyo.

Addressing the media, Ms. Nakyobe emphasized the collaborative nature of the preparations, stating, “We are in this together – you, the media, and us. It is our role to ensure that these summits are attended in big numbers and are held successfully.”

Underlining the significance of the themes for the two summits, Ms. Nakyobe revealed that the NAM Summit’s theme is ‘Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence,’ while the South Summit will revolve around the theme ‘Leaving No One Behind.’ Both events are expected to foster international cooperation and address global challenges.

Ms. Nakyobe provided insights into the extensive preparations, noting that the groundwork began in November 2022. She expressed confidence in the readiness of Uganda to host these significant global gatherings.

“The endorsement for Uganda to hold these two summits is a vote of confidence in the leadership of our President, @KagutaMuseveni, and also in our multilateral engagements,” Ms. Nakyobe stated, highlighting the importance of the summits in showcasing Uganda’s commitment to global cooperation.

During the media launch, Ms. Nakyobe introduced Ambassador @adoniaayebare as her deputy, emphasizing the strength of the team leading the preparations. A national organizing committee, headed by Permanent Secretaries, and 13 sub-committees have been diligently working to ensure a seamless and successful execution of the events.

“I want to appreciate you all for the work you’ve been doing,” Ms. Nakyobe acknowledged the dedication of the organizing committee and sub-committees.

As Uganda gears up to welcome leaders and delegates from around the world, the media launch served as a platform to inform the public about the meticulous planning in progress and to build anticipation for the 19th NAM Summit and Third South Summit, which promise to be pivotal moments in global diplomacy and collaboration.
