Uganda and The People’s Republic of China have continued to strengthen their long-standing diplomatic partnership through both diplomatic and defence engagements this week.
On Tuesday, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, arrived in Beijing, China, for a series of high-level military engagements.
His programme includes participation in an international military conference, bilateral talks with his Chinese counterpart, and a guided tour of the China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation (CATIC), a state-owned defence company specializing in aviation technology.
The visit underscores Uganda’s interest in advancing military modernization and deepening defence cooperation with Beijing.

Meanwhile, on September 17, 2025, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (International Cooperation), Hon. Oryem Henry Okello, met with China’s Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Zhang Lizhong, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala.

He also invited Hon. Oryem to attend China’s National Day celebrations in Kampala on September 22.
Hon. Oryem welcomed the Ambassador’s remarks, reaffirming Uganda’s appreciation of its strong relations with China and reiterating the country’s commitment to continued cooperation at both the bilateral and multilateral levels.
Taken together, these engagements highlight how Kampala and Beijing are consolidating ties on multiple fronts—military, diplomatic, and multilateral—reflecting the strategic depth of Uganda–China relations.
