Uganda Airlines has entered the Entebbe–Kigali aviation market with a competitive fare structure, setting its round-trip ticket price at US$370, a move expected to increase competition on one of East Africa’s busiest regional routes.
The new pricing positions Uganda Airlines below fares currently advertised by regional competitor RwandAir, whose Entebbe–Kigali return fares have been listed at higher rates depending on travel dates and availability.
The national carrier announced that direct flights to Kigali will commence on 18 November 2026, with return fares starting from US$370, while direct flights to Accra, Ghana, will begin on 28 October 2026, with round-trip fares starting from US$750.
Uganda Airlines’ entry into the Kigali market is expected to expand travel choices for passengers while supporting business, tourism and regional integration.
Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Joseph Rutabana, welcomed the development, saying increased competition could help lower airfares, improve passenger options and strengthen regional connectivity.
The move follows remarks by Uganda Airlines Board Chairman Girma Wake, who said Kigali and Accra were strategic destinations driven by growing demand for business, trade, tourism and investment.
“These destinations present significant opportunities in business, trade, tourism and investment, key drivers of air transport demand,” Wake said.
Wake also admitted that the Kigali route should have been introduced much earlier.
“We started the Kigali route very late. I believe it should have been launched on day one.”
The launch of the Kigali service marks another step in Uganda Airlines’ expansion strategy as it seeks to strengthen Entebbe’s position as a regional aviation hub and increase connectivity across Africa.
