A Turkish Airlines flight bound for Istanbul was forced to return to Entebbe International Airport on Sunday morning due to safety precautions, aviation authorities have confirmed.
Flight number TK612, an Airbus A333, took off from Entebbe at approximately 07:14 hours with 259 passengers and crew on board, according to a statement by Uganda’s Civil Aviation Authority.
However, the aircraft was unable to proceed to its final destination and instead remained in Ugandan airspace, circling areas over northern Kampala for more than three hours to burn excess fuel before making a safe landing.
At 10:50 hours, the aircraft successfully touched down at Entebbe International Airport, ensuring the safety of all on board.
Turkish Airlines is yet to provide further details on the reason for the flight’s return.
Authorities at Entebbe International Airport praised the swift response of the flight crew and air traffic control, emphasizing that passenger safety remained the top priority. Alternative travel arrangements for affected passengers are being handled by the airline.
