General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, popularly known as Hemedti, the Commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), announced today that he has received an official invitation from the Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
The invitation is extended for his attendance and active participation in the 42nd Assembly of the Extraordinary Session of the IGAD Heads of State and Governments, scheduled for January 18 in Entebbe, Uganda.
In a statement released by Hemedti, he expressed his commitment to the pursuit of a comprehensive and peaceful resolution to the conflicts plaguing Sudan, especially emphasizing the need to bring an end to the April 15 war. Confirming his acceptance of the IGAD invitation, Hemedti reiterated the Rapid Support Forces’ unwavering stance in support of a solution that brings lasting peace to Sudan.
“We, in the Rapid Support Forces, renew our commitment to putting an end to the suffering of the Sudanese people that has resulted from this war and the other ongoing conflicts in the peripheries of Sudan,” stated Hemedti. The Commander’s commitment extends towards the collective goal of ensuring that all Sudanese citizens can enjoy sustainable peace, security, stability, development, justice, freedom, and democracy.
The meeting was requested by IGAD chairman who is also Djibouti President Ismail Guelleh.
Highlighting the broader regional implications, Hemedti emphasized the role of Sudan in contributing to the preservation and maintenance of security and peace not only within the nation but also in the broader regional and global context.
